# How to Get a Daily Email Digest of News on Any Topic

*Updated September 6, 2026*

There are a few ways to get a daily news digest by email: Google Alerts for your keywords, an RSS reader, a topic newsletter, or one sentence handed to MailMeWhen, which needs no account or app.

You care about one topic — an industry, a technology, a team, a company — and you'd like the day's two or three important developments in plain words. Not forty tabs. Not a feed engineered to keep you scrolling.

## Ways to get a daily news digest by email

1. Google Alerts: free, and it emails you when your keywords appear. But it's a keyword machine: it can't tell a press release from real news, sends ten near-duplicates of the same story, and never summarizes.
2. RSS readers: full control and total responsibility — you curate the sources, you do the reading, and the unread counter quietly becomes another chore.
3. Topic newsletters: great when a good one exists for your exact interest. For anything niche — your local industry, a small company, a foreign-language beat — nobody is writing one.

## A daily news digest in one sentence

Describe the topic to MailMeWhen the way you'd brief a helpful friend: what you care about, how many items, what tone. Each day the letter picks the few things that mattered and says them plainly.

First 7 days free, no payment details; then $5/month, stopping by itself if you don't subscribe. One reply stops it whenever you like.

## Good to know about daily news digests

Specific beats broad: 'news about solid-state batteries' produces a much better letter than 'tech news'. You can also ask for it in your language even when the sources aren't.

The digest draws on public sources and is a summary, not original reporting — for decisions that matter, click through and verify.

## Try it — hand us this sentence:

> I follow the electric-vehicle industry. Mail me the three most important developments each day, in plain words.

## Common questions

**How narrow or broad can the topic be?**

As narrow as you like — a single company, a local industry, a foreign-language beat — and the narrower, the better the letter. A broad topic such as 'tech news' works too, but the letter then has to choose from far more, so say what within it actually matters to you.

**What time does the digest arrive, and how long is it?**

At the time you name in your request: 'every morning at 7' or 'at the end of the day'. Length is yours too: three items in plain words, one line per item, or a paragraph each. The sentence is the setting. The first letter arrives within 24 hours of your request.

**Can several topics share one letter?**

Yes. Put them in the same request — 'the EV industry and solid-state batteries, three items each' — and they arrive as one letter. Each request is its own subscription: the first 7 days free, then $5/month. If you'd rather have two separate letters at different times, write two requests.
