How to Get a Hotel Price Drop Alert by Email, Even After Booking
To get an email when a hotel's price drops, you can switch on price tracking in Google Hotels, set a price alert on KAYAK or in a hotel app, book a room you can cancel and keep watching it so you can rebook, or send one sentence to MailMeWhen, with no account and no app.
You booked the hotel in July for a trip in November. A few weeks later you look again, and the same room is 80 euros cheaper. The hotel won't tell you, and neither will the site you booked on. If your booking can still be cancelled for free, you can get that money back by booking again at the lower price. But only if you notice before the cancellation deadline.
Ways to get an email when a hotel's price drops
A hotel price drop alert in one sentence
Write it the way you'd tell a friend: 'email me if the room I booked in Lisbon for November 13–16 drops below €450 for the stay, so I can rebook'. Say the hotel, the dates, how many people and which room. Say whether you need free cancellation or breakfast. If you haven't booked yet, name the area and the most you'd pay a night. A real person reads it and sets it up. No account, no app, and nothing for you to maintain afterwards.
We check the public pages you would check yourself: the hotel's own website, and the booking sites' pages for your dates. Nothing arrives while the price holds. When it drops below your line, a short letter says the new total, where we saw it, and the room and conditions it's for, with a link so you can check and book. If it drops again later, you hear again.
There are things we don't do. We don't book, cancel or rebook for you; that stays with you. We can't see prices that need a login, like member rates. Some booking sites block visitors like us; then we watch the hotel's own site. If we can't read any of them, the first letter tells you, and you pay nothing. The first 7 days are free with no payment details; after that it's $5/month for that one alert, and it stops by itself if you don't subscribe. Reply once to stop.
Good to know about hotel price drop alerts
Compare the same thing. A cheaper price can be a different room, no breakfast, or a rate you can't cancel. Look at the total for the whole stay, with taxes and fees. In the US, the FTC's fee rule has required hotels and booking sites to include resort fees in the total price since May 12, 2025. Taxes can still be shown separately, as long as you see them before you pay.
Price guarantees help with a lower price somewhere else, not with a drop later on the same site. Marriott matches a lower rate for the same room on another website, plus 25% off or 5,000 points. You must book directly with Marriott and claim within 24 hours of booking. Booking.com's 'We Price Match' refunds the difference if you find your booking cheaper on another website. The other offer must still be online when they check, and cancelling your booking ends the claim.
Free cancellation has a deadline, usually a day or a few days before arrival. Put it in your calendar. After that date, a price drop is no use to you. When you rebook, make the new booking first and cancel the old one second, so you're never left without a room.
Try it — hand us this sentence:
I booked a double room in Lisbon for November 13–16, two adults, free cancellation until November 11. Watch the same room and email me if the total for the stay drops below €450, so I can rebook.
Common questions
What can I do if the hotel price drops after I book?
If your rate has free cancellation, book the same room again at the lower price, then cancel the first booking before the deadline. If it's non-refundable, you usually can't. A price guarantee only helps when the lower price is on another website. Marriott's must be claimed within 24 hours of booking. So keep an alert running after you book, until the cancellation deadline.
Does Booking.com have hotel price alerts?
We couldn't find any. Booking.com's app description doesn't mention hotel price alerts, and neither do the help pages we read. It has 'We Price Match' for a cheaper price on another website, and free-cancellation rates you can cancel and book again. To watch a Booking.com price, use Google Hotels or KAYAK, or ask us. With MailMeWhen the first 7 days are free with no payment details, then $5/month for that one alert.
Is there a price tracker for rental cars?
Yes. AutoSlash is free. You give it a reservation you already have, even one booked on another website, and it checks rates every day. When it finds a lower price, it emails you. You book the cheaper car and cancel the old reservation yourself. It doesn't work for prepaid rentals, which usually can't be cancelled. KAYAK also has price alerts for car rentals.
